Three issues of a publication titled,, explore the commodification of subculture through the popular Chinese online retailer AliExpress. All images are from products found by searching ‘punk’ on AliExpress. Repetitive, serial comparisons between images form the publication, revealing a subculture stripped of its subversion. The algorithmic product titles are set together, forming a robotic poetry. Each issue explores a different part of the elusive product imagery, which point towards both the products’ and the images’ multiple origins, edits, copies, and shares, resulting in a digital decay. The oversized publication magnifies these irregularities.
